Derryn Hinch was the host of several current affairs programs in Australia and also represented Victoria in the Senate. This parody makes reference to several public figures in Australia unfamiliar to this ugly American.
The man with the bag over his head is Joh Bjelke-Petersen, disgraced former premier of Queensland. Mad has him trying to downplay the Fitzgerald inquiry into public corruption, which had forced him out of politics.

Oh, and present in the splash is actress Jacki Weaver, who was married to Hinch back then. At the time, she was playing an MP in a TV series called House Rules.
