Based on the best-selling book by Erich von Daniken, it was one of the first of the unanswered questions genre of books that evolved into the In Search Of movies, then the Unsolved Mysteries TV series, and eventually the Q-Anon conspiracy theories. It involved the theory that religions and technologies of today were brought here by astronauts in the past.
Cracked's parody was a look at how people of the future might see products of the present (the present being the 70s).
