THE SAGA OF DANYEL BOOM

DANIEL BOONE 1964-1970 NBC

THE SAGA OF DANYEL BOOM
Sick #60, May 1968
w: Calvin Castine
a: Al Bare

Supposed to be spun off from Davy Crockett on Disneyland, but made by a different production company that couldn't secure the rights, so it became about Daniel Boone (Fess Parker). He also wore the trademark coonskin cap and was a frontier hunter, who often met famous historical figures. This parody begins with Boone and store owner Cincinattus (Dallas McKennon).
Mingo (Ed Ames) was Boone's sidekick, played by a white man regularly cast as a Native American. (side note: he may be more known as the guy who narrowly missed Johnny Carson's crotch with a tomahawk). His wife was Becky (Patricia Blair) and son was Israel (Darby Hinton).

IRONRIDE

IRONSIDE
1967-1975 NBC

Warning: Racial humor and blackface

IRONRIDE
MAD #139, December 1970
w: Lou Silverstone
a: Angelo Torres
In the 60s and 70s, detective shows all seemed to have “gimmicks”. This one was that Ironside (Raymond Burr) was paralyzed from the waist down. He was assisted by Eve Whitfield (Barbara Anderson), Ed Brown (Don Galloway), and Mark Sanger (Don Mitchell). Raymond Burr had previously starred on Perry Mason and supposedly he was in a wheelchair in this because he was very lazy in real life and didn't want to do repeated takes standing up.
