ALICE'S RESTAURANT
Cracked #95, September 1971
Here's one that's fallen through the cracks, one of Cracked's photo fillers done two years after the film's release. The plot of the film is basically told in the trailer, so no need to do a write-up here.
THE FOLK TALKER
Sick #77, August 1970
w:Steve Skeates
a: Jared Lee
This is more a parody of Arlo Guthrie's persona (though he's drawn more like Jimi Hendrix), and the song Alice's Restaurant Massacree, an 18-minute folk song that evolved into the movie. This is about how the song is more talking than singing. The introduction here makes reference to the line in the song “You can get anything you want at Alice's restaurant” and The Motorcycle Song where he rhymes “cycle” and “pickle”, and the body of the comic mentions the traditional song If I Had a Hammer.
