PURPLE ACID RAIN
MAD # 253, March 1985
w: Arnie Kogen

The Kid (Prince) performs at a club in Minneapolis, and meets Appollonia, another aspiring singer.
The Kid starts dating Appollonia and wants her to prove her love for him by undergoing a skinny-dipping ritual. She goes through with it before he can tell her he was just kidding. The Kid competes for her affections with Morris (Morris Day), leader of a competing band who is trying to replace him and manage a girl group fronted by Appollonia. The Kid takes Appollonia to his abusive parents' home as their relationship continues.
Appollonia has formed her own band with the help of Morris, and a heartbroken Kid finds his father had been a composer himself at one time. After his father commits suicide, the Kid dedicates his new song, Purple Rain, to him, and she becomes moved by it and him.
In real life, Prince a/k/a Ƭ̵̬̊ was a Jehovah's Witness. Jehovah's Witnesses are required to go to door-to-door on weekends to proselytize their religion, and apparently even celebrities aren't exempt. I don't know about you but if anyone came to my house dressed like him I'd listen to what they'd have to say.
A-Z GUIDE TO MOVIES AND TV SHOWS PARODIED BY MAD, CRACKED, CRAZY, ETC. UP TO 1996. THEY HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS. SPOILERS AND OTHER NON-SEQUITURS, TOO. SOMETIMES THESE THINGS HAVE WORDS OR SITUATIONS WE DON'T USE ANYMORE. YOU KNOW, 'CAUSE THEY'RE OLD.
