Spoof they did of the show prior to the one I posted before.

“Media Watch” was one of their segments where viewers would send in funny newspaper and magazine articles. “Red Faces” was parodied before.

“Chook Lotto” was their version of a Lotto draw with the numbers placed on live chickens instead of something like ping pong balls, and the winner was presented a Toyota from dealer Ken Morgon.

Jackie McDonald was later co-host of the show.

TV crime drama evolved from a radio show set in San Francisco about Lt. Ben Guthrie (Warner Anderson) and Inspector Matt Grebb (Tom Tully), though this story makes no attempt to make puns of the names of those characters.

The parody uses the names of the actors rather than the characters.

The film was shot in CinemaScope.

The ship is the Robert E. Lee.

“How's your Mom, Ed?” was one of the many non-sequiturs MAD often used.

The captain in the Napoleon hat is a caricature of Humphrey Bogart, who's not in the movie.

“You are there” is a reference to a TV show of the same title that reenacted famous historical events.

Not in parody: Nautilus is at war with the penal colony of Rura Penthe (Yes, they used that name in a Star Trek movie). Ned realizes they're trapped and sends out rescue messages in bottles. He steals a map and finds co-ordinates for Nemo's secret island, where he is attacked by cannibals and returns to headquarters where he is confined.

In fact, much of the comedy relief involving Kirk Douglas and Peter Lorre isn't even used in favor of scenes that are made up for this spoof. While they do some exploring on their own and there is a fight with a giant squid, there is no sunken treasure at the bottom of the sea or mermaid.
