Edward Stratton III (Joel Higgins) is the head of a toy company and one day finds he has a son Ricky (Ricky Schroeder). The premise of the show is that Edward is much more juvenile than his son. Edward's assistand and girlfriend is Kate (Erin Gray) and their uptight attorney is Dexter Stuffins (Franklyn Seales).

John Houseman sometimes appeared as Edward's father scolding him for his immaturity. The Show was often compared to Diff'rent Strokes, also about a child in a rich environment.
