Spoof they did of the show prior to the one I posted before.
“Media Watch” was one of their segments where viewers would send in funny newspaper and magazine articles. “Red Faces” was parodied before.
“Chook Lotto” was their version of a Lotto draw with the numbers placed on live chickens instead of something like ping pong balls, and the winner was presented a Toyota from dealer Ken Morgon.
Jackie McDonald was later co-host of the show.

Jack Paar was one of the first talk show hosts. I can only identify a few of the caricatures here, and after more are pointed out, I'll realize what I forgot. Right now all I can point out are Boris Karloff, Charley Weaver, Jonathan Winters, Wally Cox, Elsa Maxwell, Mort Sahl, Ed Sullivan.

Parodying how that and all Stephen Bochco=produced shows have large casts. The ending is a reference to the cabin scene of A Night at the Opera.

A-Z GUIDE TO MOVIES AND TV SHOWS PARODIED BY MAD, CRACKED, CRAZY, ETC. UP TO 1996. THEY HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS. SPOILERS AND OTHER NON-SEQUITURS, TOO. SOMETIMES THESE THINGS HAVE WORDS OR SITUATIONS WE DON'T USE ANYMORE. YOU KNOW, 'CAUSE THEY'RE OLD.
Updated daily. There's posts besides this one archived in the sidebar on the right, you clods!
if you're at a laptop or desktop, right-click and open link on pages and they'll be clearer and legible in a new window.
Jack Paar's Know-It-Alls: I think the guy nearest to Paar is announcer Hugh Downs, and next to him I think I recognize Oscar Levant. The woman with short hair is Genevieve, of course, and the guy at the far end with the big toothy grin has to be Jose Melis, Paar's bandleader. Judging by the pieces you've previously posted, the woman in the background must be Dody Goodman. And I think the guy you identified as Boris Karloff is actually Paar crony Alexander King.
ReplyDeleteIf I'm right, that just leaves the woman between Levant and King, and the guy on the very end (possibly Hans Conreid?)
Hey Hey It's Saturday: There's one judge who wasn't in the later parody, here called 'Cranial'. It's house band drummer Des 'Animal' McKenna.
I'm not sure who the guy at the end in the moose costume is. Wild guess, Peter Garrett of Midnight Oil?
Here's a spoof of the show from The Comedy Company, titled (like Mad's later parody) Go Hum It's Saturday: https://youtu.be/_KKix3YptZk
David Letterman: the caricatures of Letterman and Shaffer were swiped from a single Drucker panel (Mad #273, "Celebrities in Space").
I can't tell who the guy is at the end. Is it Jay Leno? Leno's so easy to draw that there shouldn't be any question, but who else makes sense?
