Steven (Michael Gross) and Elise Keaton (Meredith Baxter Birney) are two former hippies living in a suburban world. At the time of this parody, Elise was pregnant and the son would later be a character on the show.
Mallory (Justine Bateman) was their teenage daughter.
Alex (Michael J. Fox) was the oldest of their three children, his Reagan conservatism a contrast to their liberalism.
-Lee Iacocca was chairman of Chrysler Motors when it was bailed out by the government before becoming a very profitable company.
-Jennifer (Tina Yothers) was the youngest child

Andrew, the baby, grew up on the show, with Alex trying to groom him to be a conservative like himself.
Michael J. Fox had also starred in Back to the Future and did Pepsi commercials.

The 80s were a time for "very special" episodes of sitcoms. They were usually aired during sweeps weeks and were an hour long and dealt with serious issues, like the clip above where Tom Hanks guest starred as an alcoholic. Like in yesterday's post, this is another example of Saturday Night Live's recurring 80s TV parody sketches, put here because they did that particular episode.
