FLASHING TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH
MAD #258, October 1985
w: Arnie Kogen
a: Mort Drucker
From MAD's Academy Awards for Teenage Films. Note Mr. Hand (Ray Walston) is drawn without a beard.
As a kid, I remember thinking Mr. Hand was a dick, but in retrospect, he's a pretty cool guy. He was right in being annoyed that his class is interrupted, and I think he handled it pretty well. Later, he goes to Jeff Spiccoli (Sean Penn)'s house to help him pass history, which shows he actually cared.
FAST BUCKS AT RIDGEMONT HIGH
National Lampoon, September 1982
w: Kevin Curran
a: Stan Goldberg
The movie is based on a book that came out a few years earlier, and author Cameron Crowe went to high school as an adult posing as a teenager. The premise here is that dozens of would-be authors that are clearly well past adolescence go back to school undercover to cash in on the book's success. They used Archie artist Stan Goldberg to illustrate this.
