The premise of the show is fairly simple. It switches between the worklife of marine commander Mac McGillis (Gerald McRaney) and his homelife. His wife Polly (Shanna Reed) is a liberal journalist. His Oldest daughter is Lizzy (Marisa Ryan), the middle child is Robin (Nicole Dubuc). Casey (Chelsea Hertford) was the youngest. At work are his secretary Gunny (Beverly Archer) and Lt. Holowachuk (Matt Mulhern)

Manuel Noriega was the leader of Panama in the eighties ousted and convicted of dealing cocaine. In the background are George C. Scott as Gen. George Patton and Oliver North, a marine colonel who shredded documents when on trial.

Showing off lingerie in the last panel is Delta Burke of Designing Women.

There was a scandal in the eighties with Pentagon contractors charging outrageous prices for everyday objects

Sgt. Bilko and McHale's Navy are the examples of earlier military shows.
