Man of La Mancha was a Musical about Don Quixote author Miguel de Cervantes put on trial during the Spanish Induisition and using his work to defend himself, the story told acted out and told in flashbacks. Don Quixote being the tale of a delusion knight-errant and his squire. This article parodies the movie setting it not during the Inquisition but a few centuries ahead during the old west.

Instead of fighting windmills, Quixote (Peter O'Toole) is now fighting trains as he and Sancho Panza (James Coco) ride through the west.
And end up aiding train robbers
Aldonza (Sophia Loren) is the maid/prostitute Don Quixote becomes enchanted with.
Quixote is confronted by several movie cowboys, fictional and real, such as John Wayne, Frankie Laine, Marshall Dillon,Dan Blocker (Hoss), Gene Autry, Tom Mix, Roy Rogers, Clint Eastwood and Gabby Hayes.

  1. Among the cowboy heroes, I think I also see Ken Curtis (bottom left of page 5, in foreground); Gary Cooper (giving Rule #2); Randolph Scott and McCloud (page 6, panel 2); and Gregory Peck and Jimmy Stewart (page 6, panel 3).
