THE MAN IN THE SOOT-GRAY FLANNEL
MAD #29, September 1956
w: Al Feldstein
a: Jack Davis
Portrait of Tom Rath (Gregory Peck) as a middle-class PR man commuting daily from Westchester to New York and how things remind him of his experience during the war. It goes back and forth beteen home life with his wife Betsy (Jennifer Jones) and family, and flashbacks to World War II. He gets a tip from a fellow commuter (Gene Lockhart) about a higher-paying job, which he takes now that he won't be getting the inheritance he was expecting.
The parody gets into his romance during the war with Maria (Marisa Pavan), and how he never mentioned to his wife that he had fathered a child. Almost two thirds of the movie is omitted from this.
