Called Road Warrior in the United States but Mad Max 2 everywhere else.
The second in a franchise of Australian movies about a dystopian society in the future run by gangs. brought about by oil shortages. It begins with “Mad” Max Rockatansky (Mel Gibson) driving his V-8 through the deserts of Australia with his dog, looking for food and oil. He's attacked by Wez (Vernon Wells) member of the marauding gang.
Max defeats Wez, then sees what he thinks is an abandoned gyrocopter and attempts to steal fuel from it.
Max meets the gyrocopter pilot (Bruce Spence) and fights him, defeating him with the aid of his dog. Later, they form an alliance when the pilot shows Max a village that has food and fuel. The village has been taken over and is now run by the gangster Humungus (Kjell Nilsson) though, leader of the gang Wez is part of. Papagallo (Mike Preston) is supposed to be the leader of the village.
It is up to Max to save the town now, using his experience as a former cop, on the condition that he can take fuel and leave.
Max leads an army with the aid of Papagallo and the Gyrocaptain. A feral kid (Emil Minty) gets in the way but ends up being of help.
The story turns out to have been narrated by the feral kid all along.
This parody is originally from the Australian edition of Mad. It was the cover story of Super Special #39.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how often the Australian Mad put original material in their specials, but in addition to the Mad Max spoofs, there was at least one other new parody: The Man From Snowy River ("The Ham from Snowy Liver", #41).
