BEVERLY HILLS COP OUT
MAD #256, July 1985
w: Dick DeBartolo
a: Angelo Torres

Eddie Murphy- Axel Foley (Axewell Folly)
Judge Reinhold- Billy Rosewood (Silly Rosewater)
John Ashton- Sgt. Taggart (Taggem)
Lisa Eilbacher- Jenny Summers (Dreamie Slumbers)
Steven Berkoff- Victor Maitland (Victory Wasteland)
Axel Foley is a detective in Detroit hired to bust up a stolen cigarette ring and gets in hot water when he takes it on himself and destroys the entire city. When he gets home, he finds his old friend Mikey (James Russo) has come to visit from Beverly Hills. When Mikey was there, he worked as a security guard at a warehouse and took some bonds from there. Mikey's old bosses know he stole from them and find him and kill him. Axel wants to work on the case but his boss won't let him. He decides to take a vacation instead. To Beverly Hills.
The real reason he's there is to investigate the murder of his friend. The first thing he does is check into a hotel and then visits the art gallery where another friend works, and which was connected to the warehouse where his friend Mikey worked. The gallery is owned by Victor Maitland.

(Bronson Pinchot, who for two minutes had a role as a gallery worker, became a star playing a variation of this character in Perfect Strangers).
Axel goes to see his friend Jenny in the gallery, but Victor's goons don't like that he's poking around and throw him out. As he's laying on the sidewalk, cops arrest him for loitering. He didn't tell the arresting officers he was a cop back home.

They check up on him and figure he's up to something, so they tail him. He knows they're doing that, so he distracts them by ordering room service for them to come to their car while he clogs their engine by putting bananas in their tailpipe.

While he has them off their tail, he's able to investigate the warehouse. They catch up to him and he convinces them to go with him to a strip club. While there, a robbery happens which he (it was all three of them in the movie) foil it. Back at the station, Taggart and Billy's boss reprimands them because even though they stopped a robbery they weren't doing their assignment. In the movie, Axel makes up a story and they have to tell the truth. But in the parody, it's the other way around.

Axel tells the cops in Beverly Hills he knows Victor's gallery is a drug front but they tell him its out of his jurisdiction and they order him to leave town.
Billy has been assigned to escort Axel out of Beverly Hills, but Axel knows there's a drug ring and gets Billy to help bust it.

BEVERLY HILLS SLOP
Cracked #214, September 1985

This was their joke about bananas in the tailpipe.
Here's the part where Beverly Hills has decided the investigation is exclusively in their jurisdiction but Axel still hangs around.
The real mastermind behind the crimes is Richard Pryor.
