CAPONY

CAPONE (1975)
dir: Steve Carver

CAPONY
Cracked #128, October 1975
a: John Severin

The movie starts with Al Capone (Ben Gazzara) and how he started with the mob. He took the rap for a heist and this resulted in the police throwing him through the window, which is how he got his famous scar. This impresses mob boss Frankie Yale (John Cassavetes) who gives him a job.

Later, he is sent to Chicago to get involved with Johnny Torrio (Harry Guardino), who wants to begin bootlegging and must rub out their boss Jim Colissimo (Frank Campanella) who is standing in their way.
Capone is introduced to the rest of the mob out there.
He meets with the other families (which here include Vito Corleone and Edward G. Robinson) and decide how they will divide up the town
Al is always accompanied by his bodyguard Frank Nitti (Sylvester Stallone). His gang is fighting with O'Bannion (John Orchard) and the Genna Brothers.
Capone is going crazy and they need to get rid of him. They don't say the dementia is due to syphilis.
The day before the St. Valentine's Day massacre, Capone's girlfriend Iris (Susan Blakely) is assassinated by rival gangsters. He is finally caught and sentenced for income tax evasion. Now that he's been sentenced, he misses out on co-starring on The Untouchables.

  1. To dispense with the obvious, there's Humphrey Bogart at the end of page 3, and Ben Casey as the doctor on page 5. And on page 1, panel 3, the guy on the left is a little hard to see clearly, but it seems like someone specific - could that be Bela Lugosi?
