THE CORNSHIP OF ODDIE'S FATHER

THE COURTSHIP OF EDDIE'S FATHER
1969-1972 ABC

THE CORNSHIP OF ODDIE'S FATHER
Cracked #86, August 1970
a: John Severin

Sitcom based on earlier movie about a boy (Brandon Cruz) who was always trying to find a wife for his widowed father Tom Corbett (Bill Bixby).
Tom Jones was a singer who at the time was famous for middle-age groupies.
Mrs. Livingston (Miyoshi Umeki) was their housekeeper. A line is made of the famous quote. "Sock it to me" was a catchphrase made famous by Laugh-In. Hazel was another sitcom about a housekeeper. Somebody tell me what the Japanese says.

In the last panel is also a Laugh-In reference to Ruth Buzzi's Gladys character.
Y. A. Tittle was a lesser-known football player. Leo Durocher played baseball.
The final panel has Hope Lange of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir with Capt. Gregg, also from the show, referencing the sitcom My Favorite Martian.

  1. In the splash panel, the bike on the beach references the intro to Then Came Bronson. I wouldn't have thought of it, if there hadn't been a marginal joke about the show on the next page ("Bronson uses training wheels!").
