Movie about Fast Eddie Felson (Paul Newman), the younger pool shark challenging older pool hustler Minnesota Fats (Jackie Gleason). His acquaintances are George C. Scott and Piper Laurie. Here it's stickball instead of pool.
The last line refers to George C. Scott's starring role as a social worker in a then-current TV show called East Side/West Side.
ReplyDeleteHere's something from The New Show, Lorne Michael's extremely short-lived substitute for SNL when he couldn't run SNL. For some reason, they devoted much of an episode to an extended parody of The Hustler, starring John Candy and Kevin Kline. It's available online only in poor image quality, but at least it's complete:
