MEMPHIS BULL

MEMPHIS BULL
Cracked #261, January 1991
a: John Severin

Didn't make a particularly big splash when it came out, but like Cracked's earlier parody of Baa Baa Black Sheep, it was spoofed as an excuse for John Severin to draw warplanes, sparing him the monotony of drawing the Fonz for the thousandth time, since historical comics were the reason he got into the field in the first place.

This was about a group of Air Force soldiers during World War II. The crew was Virge Hoogesteger (Reed Diamond), Jack Bocci (Neil Guintoli), Eugene McVey (Courtney Gains), Richard “Rascal” Moore (Sean Astin), “Danny Boy” Daly (Eric Stoltz), Clay Busby (Harry Connick, Jr.), Dennis Dearborn (Matthew Modine), Phil Lowenthal (D. B. Sweeney), Luke Sinclair (Tate Donavan), and Val Kozlowski (Billy Zane). Their commanding officers were Bruce Derringer (John Lithgow) and Craig Harriman (David Straithairn). The latter four were the superior officers and in addition to their mission it was also public relations for the press back at home.
At the end of the splash panel are Bill Mauldin characters Willie and Joe.

  1. In the splash panel, there are a couple soldiers between the main cast and Willie & Joe. I think they're Sean Penn and Michael J. Fox, who had starred together the previous year in a Vietnam movie called Casualties of War.
