THE MARY TAILOR-MADE SHOW

THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW
CBS 1970-1977

THE MARY TAILOR-MADE SHOW
MAD #155, December 1972
w: Tom Koch
a: Angelo Torres

Sitcom about behind-the scenes at the office Mary Richards (Mary Tyler Moore), associate producer of the news department of WJM-TV in Minneapolis. The other characters in the newsroom were writer Murray Slaughter (Gavin McLeod), newscaster Ted Baxter (Ted Knight), and boss Lou Grant (Ed Asner).
Weatherman was Gordie (John Amos). Mary was single with many of the shows focusing on her finding a date, and this parody has her wearing different clothes in each panel.
Mary's neighbor and best friend was Rhoda Morgenstern (Valerie Harper), who eventually had her own show.
Mary's other neighbor is Phyllis (Cloris Leachman), who also later had a spinoff. She won an Oscar the previous year for The Last Picture Show.
From Truly “Relevant” TV Shows, also by Koch and Torres, from #149, March 1972
From A Treasury of Television Poetry and Prose by Tom Koch and Jack Davis in MAD #152, July 1972. The poem parodies Little Orphan Annie by James Whitcomb Riley.
From Singable Theme Songs for TV Shows by Frank Jacobs and Angelo Torres in MAD #168, July 1974

From TV Disclaimers We'd Like to See by Lou Silverstone and Jack Davis, MAD #180, January 1976. The last panel is supposed to be Barbara Walters.
From Obituaries for TV Show Characters in MAD #194, October 1977, by Frank Jacobs.
From Whatever Became of?: TV Characters Edition by Mike Snider and Bob Clarke in #266, October 1986. Betty White, who played Sue Ann Nevins, died short of 100 looking nothing like this (at least as the public saw her).
