Matt Houston (Lee Horsley) is a rich oilman who's a private investigator in his spare time. His assistant is C.J. (Pamela Hensley) and Lt. Hoyt (Lincoln Kirkpatrick) often accompanies him.

Dan August was a series with Burt Reynolds that had been on ten years prior to this and not for very long so I don't know why they would reference it except maybe because of the mustache.
