THE BLACKBOARD JUMBLE

BLACKBOARD JUNGLE (1955)
dir: Richard Brooks

THE BLACKBOARD JUMBLE
MAD #25, September 1955
w: Harvey Kurtzman
a: Wallace Wood

One of the first issues of the magazine, not in the format of sequential art but as a movie review.
Then on the next page it has this double-page spread:

THE BLACKBOARD FOREST
Snafu #1, November 1955
w: Stan Lee
a: Russ Heath

From one of the many shell companies of Magazine Management Company before it became Marvel Comics and Stan Lee was actually writing things.

Dadier (Glenn Ford), who actually is called “Daddy-O” by his students, begins teaching at a public inner-city high school which is for some reason all-male, even though it is a public school. Bill Haley's Rock Around the Clock is the background music. The students are played by Vic Morrow, Sidney Poitier, and Rafael Campos.
He first realizes there's trouble in the school when a teacher is attacked in the library.
There's a lot about female teachers coming on to him that's not actually in the movie, and not much of him being attacked by his students while after a nightcap with co-workers.

BLACKBOARD JUMBLE
From Here to Insanity (Crazy, Man, Crazy) #12, October 1955
a: Art Gates

More about a critic going to see the movie than the movie itself.
