THE BLUE NIGHT

THE BLUE KNIGHT
1975-1976 CBS

THE BLUE NIGHT
Cracked #140, March 1977
a: John Severin

Not much info about this series, other than it was about a cop named Bumper Morgan (George Kennedy) and the premise was that it took place on the streets with him on the beat as a pedestrian.
Was earlier a made-for-TV movie with William Holden.

  1. Cameos: The Fonz in the very first panel (of course); Ronald Reagan in the first panel of page 3; and a whole gaggle of TV cops (with accompanying NRA propaganda) on page 2.

Among the cops, I can identify: Robert Blake as Baretta, Jack Webb as Joe Friday from Dragnet, Martin Milner as Pete Malloy from Adam-12, Peter Falk as Columbo, and Lloyd Bridges as Joe Forrester (a short-lived show). I don't know about the guy on the left, though; it could be George C. Scott, but he wasn't a TV cop. The desk sergeant might be somebody, too.

    1. All right, that is George C. Scott. I came across a Severin spoof where he slipped in the same character, but without the hat, and that confirms it. I'd guess that it's a reference to the movie The New Centurions.
