CHURLIE'S ANGLES

CHARLIE'S ANGELS
1976-1981 ABC

CHURLIE'S ANGLES
MAD #193, September 1977
w: Lou Silverstone
a: Angelo Torres
Crime drama about three detectives led by Charlie (John Forsythe) who we never see. Jill (Farrah Fawcett-Majors), Sabrina (Kate Jackson), and Kelly (Jaclyn Smith) were sent on a mission each week by Bosley (David Doyle).
The show was part of the “jiggle” genre of television, in the late seventies it was considered an excuse to show women in skimpy outfits.
Carrying the protest signs in the top and middle panels are Kojak and Baretta.
Protesting here are Pepper Anderson of Police Woman and Laverne & Shirley.
From TV Spinoffs Yet to Come in #206, April 1979, by Tom Koch and Harry North, Esq.
From The MAD Nasty Book in #210, October 1979, also by Tom Koch and Harry North, Esq.

CHURLIE'S ANGELS
Cracked #141, May 1977
a: John Severin
The next year Cracked did another parody with the new cast. Cheryl Ladd replaced Farrah Fawcett-Majors as her sister Kris.

a: C. Bynum (John Severin)
Cracked also parodied the show in If the Carter Family Became TV Regulars in #150.

Then there was Crazy's version...

CHEERLIE'S ANGELS
Crazy #24, April 1977
w: Len Herman
a: Kent Gamble
Farrah Fawcett-Majors was married to Lee Majors, The Six Million Dollar Man, which is why he appears here.
When Farrah Fawcett, who eventually dropped the “Majors” and later divorced him and left the show, she went back to being a model like she'd been, but now with a higher profile.

In this commercial, it looks like the one girl is lifting Farrah's dress to reveal her butt, and that's why the other girl is covering her eyes. Is that it? Or is she just in awe of Farrah's beauty? I can't tell.

Sorry if I just sounded creepy there. Here's one more. On one of Steve Martin's comedy albums, he does a bit where he gets angry at her and says “After all that time I spent holding up your poster with one hand!” I was eight and used to repeat that joke in school but didn't really get it.

Final parody from Sick.

a: Jack Sparling
There was a movie made in 2000 that had a sequel and was remade in 2019.
UPDATE:
Crazy often used celebrities that weren't even inside on their covers to sell copies. Though this also has Barbarino and the Fonz, the focus is on Farrah Fawcett-Majors and Jaclyn Smith.
From The Final Segments to Popular TV Series in Crazy #47, February 1978, by Paul Laikin and John Reiner.

UPDATE 2:

From Bananas Looks at TV, circa 1981. Most likely reprinted from an earlier issue. Bananas was published by Scholastic, one of those things sold exclusively in classrooms, started out as a teen fan magazine, then transitioned to humor magazine.
UPDATE 3:

  1. In the Mad parody, it might be worth noting that the women with Charlie on page 2 are Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman and Lindsay Wagner as the Bionic Woman.

    1. Also, I think the guy hiring dancers is Marjoe Gortner. It would explain his line on the last page, "my old man wanted me to be a Preacher".
