Beginning where the last French Connection left off (see previous post), Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle (Gene Hackman) has been sent to Marsailles, France to catch drug dealer Alain Charnier a/k/a Frog One (Fernando Rey). In the first film, Doyle busted a particular deal but didn't get the person behind it. Once he gets to France, he meets with Inspector Barthelemy (Bernard Fresson) and their personalities immediately clash.
The guys tailing Popeye are Baretta and Columbo.
ReplyDeleteBut, you know, par for the course. What interests me is page 6, panel 2. It seems like 'Marianne' must be someone we're meant to recognize, because the joke makes no sense on its own. But searching for Harry and Marianne yielded nothing useful to me, unless Cracked was referencing a French film called La Piscine, which I very strongly doubt.
