Sitcom about Charlie Moore (Howard Hesseman), a teacher in an Independent Honors Program at Millard Fillmore High School in New York. The students were Alan (Tony O' Dell) the conservative preppie, Simone (Khrystyne Haye) the quiet sensitive poet-type, Sarah (Kimberly Russell) the underachiever, Arvid (Dan Frischman) the math and science nerd, Dennis (Dan Schneider) the computer guy, Janice (Tanis Valelly) the child prodigy, Eric (Brian Robbins) the rebel, Darlene (Robin Givens) the spoiled rich girl, Maria (Leslie Bega) the overachiever, and Jawarharlal (Jory Husain) an exchange student.
Howard Hesseman's previous TV role was Johnny Fever, the laid-back disc jockey on WKRP in Cincinatti. The senator is not referring to the movie Star Wars, but the Strategic Defense Initiative, a satellite program under Reagan that was meant to prevent nuclear war.
Bernadette (Jeanetta Arnette) was another teacher and Dr. Samuels (William B. Schilling) was the principal. They spelled 'Stanislavski' wrong.
The subjects in the middle panel, for the most part, were famous failures of the mid-80s. Sean Penn, early in his career, was famous for punching paparazzi. Philip Michael Thomas was co-star of Miami Vice. Anything else you don't know you'll figure out from the context.
