In 1969, Alan Parrish (Robin Williams) finds a game called Jumanji and decides to play it with his friend Sarah, which turns out to be haunted, casting spells and summoning wildlife, and rolling the dice makes the game pieces move by themselves. He gets sucked into it and Sarah runs away. Twenty-five years later, Judy (Kirsten Dunst) and Peter (Bradley Pierce) are living in the house and have found the game, and they have decided to play it. They heard a rumor that the previous owner Alan was murdered.
Playing the game has summoned monkeys and brought Alan back. He realizes he has missed 25 years and cleans himself up. Judy and Peter find out who Alan is. Alan's father was a sneaker tycoon who ran the town and he tries to track them down, but they're dead and the town's run down. A homeless man lives in the abandoned shoe factory.
The monkeys are on the loose in the town and the only way to get rid of them is to finish the game and Alan has to finish as well. They also need Sarah (Bonnie Hunt) to finish with them, so they find her where she used to live. Here she's in an insane asylum, in the movie she's a psychic. In the movie she doesn't belive Alan's disappearance or the game was real. They go back to playing the game, and Alan brings forth Van Pelt (Jonathan Hyde), a game hunter from the turn of the last century, who chases him through the rest of the movie.
Also a patient is the Brad Pitt character from Twelve Monkeys
During someone else's turn, wildlife come loose and out into the streets.
The game also has Alan get sucked into quicksand, which turns back into the floorboards, leaving Alan stuck in the floorboards. Here the game summons Ace Ventura,
All sorts of disasters happen, such as floods, insects, a lion coming loose, and sentient plants.
WHAT IF EVERY GAME WAS LIKE JUMANJI?
