THE NURTZES
MAD #82, October 1963
w: Stan Hart
a: Mort Drucker

Medical drama set in a New York hospital starred Shirl Conway as Liz Thorpe and Zina Bethune as Gail Lucas.

Like most primetime TV dramas, the show was known for frequent high-profiles guest stars, one this week is Ed Begley (Senior).
Another guest star in this parody is Nehemiah Persoff.
MAD was known for being anti-smoking long before being anti-smoking was cool, probably one of the reasons tobacco's not the main sponsor for practically everything anymore.
Richard Chamberlain was Doctor Kildare, probably the foremost Dr. McDreamy of the time.

Part of the joke here is that some of the guest stars are actors that wouldn't deign to do television (at one time almost nobody did both). George C. Scott is one of the guest stars here. Later, Dina Merrill is also one. I'm not sure if here character being called 'Miss Kelly' is a reference to how the media often compared her to Grace Kelly.
”Hello Dere” was a catchphrase of comedian Marty Allen

Conrad Nagel, who wasn't even active by that point, is another guest star.
