TUNE-IN

LAUGH-IN a/k/a ROWAN AND MARTIN'S LAUGH-IN 1968-1973 NBC

Comedy series that was sort of a precursor to Saturday Night Live but more Vegas-like and right-leaning (Richard Nixon was once a guest star). It was the highest rated program at the time, considered extremely fast-paced by standards then. Responsible for dozens of catchphrases, as seen in the video clips.

Back cover to Cracked #73, November 1968. Dan Rowan and Dick Martin were a comedy team before this, Dan being the smarter of the two and Dick being the ladies' man. Each week they ended the show with Rowan saying “Time to say goodnight, Dick” to which Martin would reply “Goodnight, Dick.”
These were the types of bits they'd do, from that same issue.
From issue # 76, May 1969. The joke wall features Phyllis Diller, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Woody Allen, and Alfred Hitchcock.
This article also did Bonanza, which I posted on the Bonanza page.

Back cover of issue #79, September 1969. Arte Johnson and Ruth Buzzi were Tyrone Horneigh and Gladys Ormphby, two old people who sat on a park bench. He'd try to hit on her and she'd hit him with her purse.
Cast member Lily Tomlin on the back of Cracked #94, August 1971
Goldie Hawn on the back of #75, April 1969
Some of their material, let's just say, doesn't align with today's values, to say the least.

Laugh-In as if it were a movie, from Big Sick #2, reprinted from an earlier issue.
They actually did make a movie.

Dick says “You should have heard her screaming” in a G-rated movie. As a 2022 viewer I must ask if it was consensual. Half the audience will say I'm making a big deal out of nothing, the other half won't. He's dead so we'll never know.
