Here's part 2 of the look at the show. MAD's parody's of the show, featured yesterday, were almost always drawn by Jack Davis. Here are some actual pieces he did for the show.

This was done the first time the budget for the PBS was slashed, and the fractions of a penny of your tax dollar are still a thorn on the side of some on the right forty years later.
The subject of Sesame Street being gentrified is satirized here as Oscar (Carol Spinney) and Buffy St. Marie and evicted from their homes. Susan (Loretta Long), Bob (Bob McGrath), Maria (Sonia Manzano), and David (Northern Calloway), are on the verge of homelessness themselves.
Ernie (Jim Henson) and Cookie Monster (Frank Oz) have to make cuts.
Big Bird (Carroll Spinney) had imaginary friend Snuffleuppagus that only he saw. Here Mr. Hooper (Will Lee) is trying to eat Big Bird Because of Sesame Street's budget cuts.
Jim Henson was doing the Muppets on Sesame Street and his own show at the same time, both of which featured Kermit.
