THE SHADOW
1937-1954 MUTUAL
SHADOW!
MAD #4, April-May 1953
w: Harvey Kurtzman
a: Bill Elder
The Shadow started out as a pulp character in the thirties and has lasted in various incarnations in movies, television, comics, serials, but most long-running as a radio show. The premise was that Lamont Cranston (originally Orson Welles) terrified criminals into vulnerability and had an ability to cloud their minds so they couldn't see him. His crime-solving partner and girlfriend Margo Lane (originally Agnes Moorehead) was the only one who knew of his true identity.
