MOVIE SPOOF: THE PINK PANTHER

THE PINK PANTHER (1963)
dir: Blake Edwards

THE PINK PANTHER
Sick #31, September 1964

The original poster was drawn by MAD artist Jack Rickard.
The Pink Panther spawned several sequels and two different cartoon series, and two remakes. The Pink Panther was the name of a diamond, not the nickname for Inspector Clouseau as many erroneously believe. The first few had the character of Inspector Clouseau played by Peter Sellers, and after his death there were a similar characters played by other actors, and after the death of director Edwards, the series was remade with Steve Martin.
Each movie had a long opening animated sequence of Inspector Clouseau chasing an anthropomorphised Pink Panther. The Panther itself was in a series of theatrical shorts, the first of which won an Academy Award.
The Inspector had a cartoon series as well.
