PLANET OF THE APES

PLANET WITH THE APES
Cracked #123, March 1975
a: Harry Gibbons (John Severin)
It lasted only half a season, but there was also a TV series based on the successful film franchise.
An entirely different group of astronauts from the movie in 1980 (it's the future), Peter Burke (James Naughton) and Alan Virdon (Ron Harper) are headed to Alpha Centauri and land on a planet in 3085, but they already know it's a future Earth. They're discovered by Galen (Roddy McDowall in a third role). The premise of the show is about the astronauts attempting to escape, occasionally hacing to work with the apes, and occasionally having to fight them.
The apes headed by Dr. Zaius (Booth Colman) are not quite as hostile as the humans have uniforms and are able to speak right away. Security chief Urko (Mark Lenard) is the more violent one here.
There really is no love interest to speak of except among the apes, but not for the audience. Zantes (Jacqueline Scott) is the chief surgeon, ex-lover of Zaius and crush of Prefect Barlow (John Hoyt)
A month later, they had an article about magazines that would exist on the planet.
There was a Saturday morning cartoon of the franchise...
...and a comic.
