THE ALLEN JURKE SHOW
Sick #68, June 1969
a: Jack Sparling
Here's something barely remembered now. He had a talk show on WNEW-TV late at night and the guests were basically the 180 degree opposite of someone too far right for even the furthest Q-Anon conspiracist, someone you'd never meet as if they were representative of your average Democrat. Kind of a contemporary of Joe Pyne, a forerunner of Morton Downey Jr. on the East coast and Wally George on the West Coast, Bob Grant on the radio, a secular Jack T. Chick. A lot of his audience members were plants. Sounds like something you'd want to watch but my guess is it was really slow-paced. I'm going to be corrected about everything by people who were there.
But whatever it was, it's been forgotten about by almost everybody now. The fact that it was parodied means it must have been popular somewhere at one time.
Because of the way Columbus is dressed, he's questioned about his masculinity, something nobody (well, hardly anybody) cares about today.
What's also outdated is we know more about Columbus now and realize he's not the sacred historical figure beyond reproach he's supposed to be in this parody.
