UNDERNEATH THE PLANET THAT WENT APE
MAD #157, March 1973
w: Arnie Kogen
a: Mort Drucker
From The Milking of the Planet that Went Ape. Up to then, Planet of the Apes and James Bond were the only two film franchises in existence. There had been things like Charlie Chan or Bulldog Drummond before that but not really on a big budget. MAD parodied all four (at that time) Planet of the Apes films in one seven-page article. This was their take on Beneath the Planet of the Apes. It was just these panels.
UPDATE:
UNDERNEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES
Cracked #90, January 1971
a: John Severin
Charlton Heston, star of the first one, dies right at the beginning of this one.
Nova (Linda Harrison), the woman on the horse, is mute throughout the whole film.
UPDATE 2:
BENEATH THE DIGNITY OF THE APES
Blast #1, February 1971
w: Marv Wolfman
a: Berni Wrightson
All I'll say is they must have paid really well.
MAD's version didn't have Linda Harrison as Nova, which wasn't a speaking part, or Charlton Heston as Taylor.
A-Z GUIDE TO MOVIES AND TV SHOWS PARODIED BY MAD, CRACKED, CRAZY, ETC. UP TO 1996. THEY HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS. SPOILERS AND OTHER NON-SEQUITURS, TOO. SOMETIMES THESE THINGS HAVE WORDS OR SITUATIONS WE DON'T USE ANYMORE. YOU KNOW, 'CAUSE THEY'RE OLD.
