Dr. Yuri Zhivago (Omar Sharif) is caring for the wounded. After he leaves, Pasha (Tom Courtenay) comes, also wishing to be treated by Lara (Julie Christie), for whom he is in love and plans to marry. She has had an affair with Komarovsky (Rod Steiger) and this has caused her mother to attempt suicide.
Komarovsky disapproves of Lara's potential marriage and rapes her. She takes revenge by shooting him at a party that night. Dr. Zhivago, who has just married Tania (Geraldine Chaplin), treats Komarovsky and Lara marries Pasha. The Russian Revolution begins. There is an intermission (movies used to have them).
Yuri and Tania now have a child and he is having an affair with Lara. [Not in the parody, he writes her poems, at knowing risk his poetry is not approved of by the communist government.] Because Lara's husband Sasha is an enemy of the state they have been watching this whole time and Komarovsky knows of the affair. Zhivago is arrested and Lara leaves on the train with Komarovsky, revealing she is pregnant with Zhivago's child.
Also not included, years pass and Dr. Zhivago has died, his poetry celebrated despite being forbidden. The child believed to be that of Komarovsky and Lara is grown up and it is confirmed that Zhivago is the real father when it is revealed she is a musician.
