Barbara Walters and Hugh Downs of 20/20 host an episode that portrays the sitcom about the behind-the scenes look at a fictional news show called FYI hosted by Murphy Brown (Candice Bergen). The main cast was Miles Silverberg (Grant Shaud), Corky Sherwood (Faith Ford), Jim Dial (Charles Kimbrough), and Eldin Bernecky (Robert Pastorelli).
The wooden figure in the foreground of one panel is Charlie McCarthy, character of Candice Bergen's father Edgar.
Phil (Pat Corley) was the owner of Phil's Bar, where many of the scenes in the show took place.
Joe Regalbuto was Frank Fontana.

In the Mad parody, in the last panel of page 4, there's a picture on the wall signed 'Love, Mother'. It's Colleen Dewhurst, who guest-starred as Murphy's mother in the first few seasons of the show (and won a couple Emmys for it).
ReplyDeleteIn the next panel, at the start of page 5, Corky mentions a couple former Miss America winners who had been embroiled in scandal. In 1984, Vanessa Williams was forced to give up her title after Penthouse published unauthorized nude photos of her. (The pageant formally apologized to her in 2015.) In 1987, Bess Myerson was forced to resign from her position in New York City government, as she had used it to pull strings for a man she was romantically involved with.
