The premise of the show was that the mother of Nicole Bradford (Staci Keanan) passed away, and Michael Taylor (Paul Reiser) or Joey Harris (Greg Evigan) could have been the father. Since nobody knows, Judge Margaret Wilbur (Florence Stanley), who is also Joey's landlord, decides they get joint custody, but must live under one roof. Nicole has chosen the home of Joey, a struggling artist, over the home of Michael, a successful banker. The two of them can't stand each other but have to live together.

Evigan's previous series, B.J. And the Bear, was about a trucker who drove with an ape.

The others in the last panel are Danny of Full House (Bob Saget), Michael of Valerie's Family (Josh Taylor), and Peter of I Married Dora.
