UPHILL RACER

DOWNHILL RACER (1969)
dir: Michael Ritchie

UPHILL RACER
Sick #76, June 1970
w: Fred Wolfe (Paul Laikin)
a: Jack Sparling

Another case of them not having seen the film they're parodying. I have, fer nothin'.

David Chappellet (Robert Redford) is a professional skiier practicing in Switzerland for eventual championship for the US ski team in the Olympics. He doesn't have a mustache in this, presumably, they used Redford's Sundance Kid for reference.
He visits his father in Colorado, who tells him skiing is a waste of time, and then he sees his childhood girlfriend in town.
David loses interest in his old girlfriend, then goes back to Europe to practice more, and starts seeing Carole (Camilla Sparv), assistant to the man who made his skis. In the movie, it is he who dumps her, not the other way around.
Much of this parody is an excuse to make fun of those much maligned minorities, the Germans, Austrians, and Swiss. None of the following scenes are actually a part of the movie.

  1. On the last page, they named the big German after Hitler's private secretary, Martin Bormann.
